This book compiles Japanese onomatopoeia that repeat the same sound—such as “wakuwaku” (excited), “kirakira” (sparkling), “harahara” (nervous), and “mogumogu” (munching)—and presents them in Japanese-English side-by-side translations accompanied by illustrations.

1958 年、岩手県生まれ。明治大学文学部教授。日本語学会副会長・日本近代語研究会会長。専門は日本語の史的研究（文字・語彙・意味）。日本語およびオノマトペに関する著書多数。
